Jeffrey D. Briggs gave two talks at the Seattle Boat Show on his love of boats and writing about the Pacific Northwest (and boats!) in his Seattle Waterfront mysteries. The first in the series OUT OF THE COLD DARK SEA came out in 2019. The second will be forthcoming this year.

Leslie Budewitz will be talking about writing mysteries and signing books at the North Valley Public Library in Stevensville, MT on Sat, Feb 8, at 11 am.

Curt Colbert will talk about his collaboration with the late Waverly Fitzgerald as they wrote their parallel mysteries, ALL ALONG THE WATCHTOWER and HARD RAIN, at the book launch for HARD RAIN, Third Place Books/LFP, Thu, Feb 13, 7 pm in The Den.

Waverly Fitzgerald, who passed away in December, was celebrated at a memorial event at Hugo House in Seattle on Sun, Jan 26. More than 100 family members, friends, colleagues, and former students came to honor her for her many contributions as writer, teacher, coach, editor, and board member. On Thu, Feb 13, there will be a book launch event for her final book, HARD RAIN, cohosted by SinC and Third Place Books/LFP. This will be held at 7 pm in The Den.

Robert Herold’s first novel, THE EIDOLA PROJECT, won 2nd place in the 2019 Reviewers’ Choice Awards given by the Paranormal Romance Guild. He also held his book launch at Third Place Books/LFP on Sun, Jan 26.

Erica Miner will be signing her two books, MURDER IN THE PIT and DEATH BY OPERA, at The Neverending Bookshop in Edmonds on Sat, Feb 15, 2-4 pm. She also will offer her two-part lecture series about opera, “Reach for the Stars,” at UC San Diego on Feb 5 and 7.

Candace Robb joined Kim Zarins at the UW Bookstore/Seattle on Jan 11 to talk about how they recreate the Medieval author Geoffrey Chaucer in their work. Chaucer appears in Candace’s Owen Archer series, including the recent A CONSPIRACY OF WOLVES, while Kim has published a contemporary retelling of The Canterbury Tales for YA readers, SOMETIMES WE TELL THE TRUTH.

Charlotte Stuart released her new light-hearted mystery, WHY ME? CHIMERAS, CONUNDRUMS, AND DEAD GOLDFISH, on Jan 5. Her second Discount Detective mystery (sequel to SURVIVAL CAN BE DEADLY) will be published in the fall of 2020.

Elena Taylor (AKA Elena Hartwell) received a glowing review from Publishers Weekly for ALL WE BURIED, the first Sheriff Bet Rivers Mystery coming out on April 7th from Crooked Lane Books. It is available for pre-order now. She also taught a writing workshop for the EPIC Writers Group in Edmonds this month.

Marty Wingate’s THE BODIES IN THE LIBRARY made the CrimeReads “Notable Selections” list of traditional mysteries published in 2019. On Wed, Jan 30, she gave a talk about her writing at Village Books in Bellingham.

Joyce Yarrow’s new book, ZAHARA AND THE LOST BOOKS OF LIGHT, will be published by Adelaide Books (Lisbon/New York) on Dec 1. It follows the story of a Seattle journalist who applies for citizenship in Spain as a descendant of Jews expelled centuries ago – and tracing her family history draws her into a bigger mystery.

James W. Ziskin’s seventh Ellie Stone mystery, TURN TO STONE, was released by Seventh Street Books on Jan 21.
